  • Clinical significance:

Neisseria species are obligate human pathogens that colonize the mucosal surfaces of its host. They are mostly Gram negative diplococci of 0.6-1.0 µm diameter, although some species appear as rods (Neisseria elongata amongst others). They are non-motile and do not have flagella, and have an optimum growing temperature of 35-37°C. Moraxella catarrhalis is a Gram negative diplococci and often misidentified as member of the genus Neisseria. Moraxella catarrhalis causes acute localized infections such as otitis, sinusitis, and bronchopneumonia, as well as life-threatening systemic diseases including endocarditis and meningitis. The Cypress Diagnostics Bacterial Identification System: Neisseria (Bis-Neiss) allows the identification of the species of Neisseria and Moraxella catarrhalis upon infection by any of these microorganisms.

  • Intended use:

The Cypress Diagnostics Bacterial Identification System: Neisseria (Bis-Neiss) kit is a standardized identification panel for common species of genus Neisseria and Moraxella catarrhalis, consisting of 8 miniaturized biochemical tests.
