  • Clinical significance:

Chloride, a major anion, is important in the maintenance of the cation/anion balance between intra- and extra-cellular fluids. This electrolyte is therefore essential to the control of proper hydration, osmotic pressure and acid/base equilibrium. Low serum chloride values are found with extensive burns, excessive vomiting, intestinal obstruction, nephritis, metabolic acidosis, and in Addisonian crisis. Elevated serum chloride values may be seen in dehydration, hyperventilation, congestive heart valve failure, and prostatic or other types of urinary obstruction.

  • Intended use:

The Cypress Diagnostics kit Chloride is an in vitro diagnostic medical device intended to be used for the quantitative measurement of chloride in human serum or plasma. The device is not automated. The measurement of chloride is intended to be used to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of electrolyte and metabolic disorders such as cystic fibrosis and diabetic acidosis, in patient risk population. This kit is intended to be used by healthcare professionals in a laboratory-based testing environment.
