Clinical significance:
Hemoglobin is a porphyrin-iron (II) protein compound that transports oxygen from the lungs to the tissues where it is utilized for energy metabolism. Measurements of hemoglobin from venous or capillary blood rods are used in the detection of a variety of conditions that alter the normal hemoglobin concentration of the blood, e.g. anemia or polycythemia.

Intended use:
The Cypress Diagnostics kit Hemoglobin is an in vitro diagnostic medical device intended to be used for the quantitative measurement of hemoglobin in human capillary or venous blood. The device is not automated. The measurement of hemoglobin is intended to be used to aid to identify anemia (it can be caused by primary anemia, pregnancy, renal diseases, and hemorrhages) or high levels of hemoglobin (it can be caused by cardiopathies, dehydratation and stays in places of high altitude), in patient risk population. This kit is intended to be used by healthcare professionals in a laboratory-based testing environment.
