Clinical significance:
α-Amylase is an enzyme that helps to digest the glycogen and the starch. It is produced mainly by exocrine pancreas and salivary glands. Its determination is mainly made in diagnosis or to control diseases of the pancreas as acute or chronic pancreatitis. It can also reflect biliary or gastrointestinal disease and other upheavals.

Intended use:
The Cypress Diagnostics kit α-Amylase is an in vitro diagnostic medical device intended to be used for the quantitative measurement of α-amylase in human serum or plasma. The device is not automated. The measurement of α-amylase is intended to be used to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), in patient risk population.
